This article contains a presentation of the theoretical and methodological premises of various kinds of mobile social research in the city. The departure point is to treat moving as a characteristic of contemporary socio-cultural life, as in the premises of the mobility paradigm. Mobility is described as the context for experiencing the urban space and the point of departure for mobile social research. The traits and various types of such research are indicated, including the principles that connect them with visual research techniques. 'Walking with video' is used as an example. The author recounts research experiences connected with the use of this technique, on three levels: preparation, realization, and processing and communication.

The article presents the relationship between the Internet, the state and politics. It starts from describing similarities between politics and social aspects of the Internet. This is described in the context of Web 2.0, collective intelligence, informal circuits of cultural content and multitasking. Then two perspectives of the functioning of the Internet in the contemporary state and politics are shown. The first, which is a top-down perspective, describes the concepts of e-government and e-participation. The second one, which is bottom-up, refers to new types of election campaigns as well as the role of new media in social change. In conclusion, there are some questions regarding cyberdemocracy and digital citizenship.

One of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic was the temporary closure of many state borders and the reintroduction of border controls. This included countries in the Schengen Area, and thus the Polish-German border. These events can be seen as an example of rebordering processes. They significantly impacted the life of Polish-German twin cities, whose functioning is based mainly on cross-border flows, mobility, and exchange. The paper aims to determine how the temporary border closure affected the Polish-German borderland identity. This is based on qualitative empirical research. The research is comparative in nature and juxtaposes statements collected before (in-depth interviews) and during (phone interviews) the pandemic. On this basis, the identity of the borderland is described in four dimensions: othering, sense of belonging, cultural landscape, and border practices and routines. This made it possible to characterize the impact of the border closure on the local community more comprehensively. Negating the border as a place of exchange, and associating it with a threat, resulted in economic decline and a sense of uprooting. This conclusion should translate into more significant consideration of the identity aspect in public policies designed to address border closures in the EU following the pandemic.

W drugiej części artykułu zarysowana zostaje koncepcja wizualności, a na jej podstawie autorzy prezentują wybrane konteksty rozważań nad przynależnymi wizualności potencjami budowania i uwspólniania światów społecznych. Podejmowane w artykule próby teoretyczno-egzemplifikacyjne mogą stanowić wstęp do dalszych, bardziej całościowych analiz.

The Kwestionariusz Kultury Wizualnej (Polish Visual Culture Questionnaire) is a nation-wide scientific project. Over forty Polish researchers and artists, representing the fields of sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, film studies, philosophy, photography, media studies and art history, were asked to answer two questions: what is visual culture?; whether it is worthy of study and how and why? This article contains the project's assumptions and answers to the above questions.

The article aims to sum up the reflections concerning visual culture and the visual aspect of life that have appeared in Polish sociology over the last twenty years as well as to analyse the area associated today with visual sociology. The authors give a short review of the history of Polish visual sociology, indicating at the beginning the most essential scientific and didactic events in this field. Further on, they analyse the ways of understanding the notion "visual sociology" (and its cognate notions). They present the use of photography in anthropology and in social research, and give a critical analysis of the studies and representation of visual culture at the beginning of the 20th century. This leads them to the designation of two scopes of the contemporary notion of visual sociology: a more narrow (methodological) one and a broader one (which they call: "the sociology of visual culture"). In all, this analysis shows the ways in which the term "visual sociology" (and its cognate terms) has been gradually adopted, developed and re-defined in Poland.

The article focuses on developing and using a mobile application in the research of spatial practices along the Polish-German border region. The goal is to broaden the frame of thinking about the use of mobile applications in social research and understand it as a network of human and non-human actors. Based on observations and interviews conducted both with the study participants using the application and ourselves as members of the research team, who developed the app, we will examine expectations and potentials regarding the use of this application. We explore how it shaped our relationships and contacts and the perception of the data collected, and we conclude by proposing a framework allowing to consider more factors in the development of the application to enhance efficiency and reliability and to see how it transforms the research process and its environment.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the relationship between everyday life and special conditions seen in the context of the concept of crisis. The authors define everyday life and special conditions as two opposing ways of experiencing social life, but their differentiation does not depend on their content but rather on form and manner of their perception/realisation in everyday life. This differentiation is described on the basis of the example of the concept of crisis, understood as the breakdown of everyday life and the consequent creation of special conditions. Based on contemporary examples, concerning to a large degree the social consequences of the breakdown of the economy, the authors represent crisis as a moment of renegotiating the principles of social life, the disruption of the routines and habits of everyday life and the transition into the unpredictability and reflexivity of social practices which characterize such special conditions. Attention is paid in particular to the concept of power, which takes on new meanings in the sociology of everyday life, differing from its institutional meaning, closer rather to "everyday power" which is realised in the framework of direct interactions in daily life.
